Roberts Recycling is proud to celebrate the incredible efforts of Aberbargoed Fire Station, which has been crowned the winner of this year’s Rag Trophy after collecting an outstanding 5.6 tonnes of unwanted textiles.

Our Co-Director John Roberts and Cardiff Depot Manager Joshua Golding visited the station to personally present the award, recognising the dedication of the firefighters and their local community in supporting both sustainability and charity.
John Roberts praised their achievement, saying:
“The commitment shown by Aberbargoed Fire Station and the local community is truly inspiring. Their efforts highlight the power of collective action—diverting textiles from landfill while raising essential funds for The Fire Fighters Charity. We’re proud to support such an impactful initiative.”
With two of the top three recycling stations coming from Wales, the region continues to set the standard for textile recycling. This success demonstrates the strong community spirit and dedication to sustainability across the country.
Kevin Biles from The Fire Fighters Charity also expressed his appreciation:
“This partnership is making a real difference—not only in reducing waste but also in generating crucial funding for our charity. Every donation helps us provide support to the UK’s firefighting community, and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who contributed.”
We extend a massive thank you to all those who donated textiles at their local fire stations. Your generosity is making a real impact—helping the planet and supporting a fantastic cause.
