The two-time Queen’s Award for Enterprise-winning Roberts Recycling Ltd has launched an exciting community education initiative, Textile Champions, delivering engaging textile recycling workshops to over 250 primary school children across Wrexham and Manchester.
In collaboration with leading curriculum provider Florus Education, the Textile Champions programme rewards schools participating in Roberts Recycling’s England and Wales clothing bank collection services, Recycle 4 Schooland Dragon Bags. This initiative recognizes schools for their commitment to sustainability and textile recycling while providing vital educational experiences for students.
Participating schools can reduce their carbon footprint and raise funds for a cause of their choice by collecting clothing donations from their communities. These donations are then exported by Roberts Recycling for reuse worldwide, extending the life of textiles and contributing to the company’s mission of diverting millions of textile items from landfill each month.
In 2024, two standout schools, Wat’s Dyke CP (Wrexham) and St Anne’s CE (Sale), made remarkable contributions by collecting 3.5 tonnes and nearly 700kg of clothing donations, respectively.
Miss Hammond, Year 3 Teacher at St Anne’s, praised the workshop, saying:
“There was amazing enthusiasm from the Roberts Recycling team, with the children having such a wonderful time. They were engaged throughout the carefully planned and fun activities, and the message of the importance of recycling textiles really stuck with the pupils. Thank you for considering St Anne’s and our environmentally conscious students for this fantastic opportunity!”
Paul Roberts, Director of Roberts Recycling Ltd, expressed his delight in delivering the workshops:
“It was an absolute pleasure to bring our first-ever Textile Champions workshops to partner schools Wat’s Dyke and St Anne’s. Seeing the students’ enthusiasm as they learned about the environmental benefits of recycling and reusing clothes was incredibly rewarding.
Their creativity and curiosity were inspiring, and we are grateful for both schools’ impressive textile recycling efforts this year. At Roberts Recycling, we are dedicated to promoting sustainability through the collection and redistribution of unwanted clothing and textiles.
Our aim is to empower the next generation to adopt a positive and proactive approach to sustainability. I hope these workshops spark a lifelong commitment to environmental awareness in these young minds.”
Beyond their educational efforts, Roberts Recycling Ltd remains committed to their charitable mission. In 2024, the company paid out over £2.5 million to charitable partners across the UK.
