Supporting the Great Schools’ Climate Assembly

Inspiring Students to Tackle Textile Waste

Roberts Recycling is proud to have been a key industry partner in the Liverpool World Centre’s Great Schools’ Climate Assembly, a programme funded by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) to empower young people to develop practical solutions to environmental challenges.

Since late 2024, we have supported the initiative by delivering online education workshops to schools that chose textiles as their focus for recycling. Fast forward a few months, and we were thrilled to take our involvement a step further—supporting the next stage of the project in person by working directly with students to refine their ideas.

As part of this, we collaborated with students from St Michael’s and All Angels, Thornleigh Salesian College, and Liverpool College, sharing industry insights and guidance to help them develop innovative approaches to reducing textile waste.

Paul Roberts, Director of Roberts Recycling, reflected on the experience:

“It’s been fantastic to see the passion and creativity of these students as they tackle real-world sustainability challenges. Their enthusiasm for textile recycling and circular fashion gives us great hope for the future. It’s a privilege to support and guide the next generation of changemakers.”

The project has provided an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with sustainability on a deeper level, culminating in events at two iconic venues—St George’s Hall and Shakespeare North Playhouse—where they shared their ideas with industry experts and educators.

Karen Wynne from Liverpool World Centre highlighted the impact of the collaboration:

“Engaging with businesses like Roberts Recycling has been invaluable for students. Learning from real-world industry leaders has helped shape their ideas into meaningful, achievable solutions. We’re excited to see where their projects lead.”

We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in this inspiring initiative and look forward to seeing how these young innovators continue their journey towards a more sustainable future.
