We’re proud to be working with the brilliant students and staff TEAM at The Academy of St Nicholas, a secondary-school based in Speke, Liverpool to launch a creative sustainability fashion project that tackles textile waste.
Titled “Where’s Your Thread At?”, this exciting initiative challenges students to design and deliver a full fashion show, upcycling damaged, unwanted and de-branded textiles provided by Roberts Recycling as part of our ongoing commitment to reuse and circularity.

Led by students from across the school, the show will explore three bold themes: Royalty Through the Ages, Futuristic Fashion and Punk Power
Students have been invited to apply for roles including models, designers, event production, marketing, drama and music —building teamwork, confidence and real-world creative skills in the process.

The project launched with a visit from our Director, Paul Roberts, who introduced the initiative during a school visit, sharing insights from his work in textile recycling and the importance of exploring rewear solutions.
To spark ideas and source materials, a group of students visited our Cheshire headquarters for a behind-the-scenes tour of our textile recovery facility. There, they hand-picked the items they’ll use in their collections to transform waste into runway-ready items.

Paul Roberts, Director of Roberts Recycling, said:
“It’s brilliant to see students taking the lead in rethinking how we view waste. We’re proud to support this initiative – not only by providing materials, but by helping young people to build practical skills in design and production and an interest in the importance of rewear and recycling.”
The final fashion show will take place in July 2025, with students showcasing their upcycled creations in front of peers, teachers and the wider community.
